  • How far along? Thirteen Weeks
  • Baby Size? Size of a Peach and weighs half a pound.
  • Total weight gain? Again, I lost 2lbs this week from the constant pukies.  I am now back to my pre-pregnancy weight but my bump is definitely much bigger.  You can actually see it in the pic this week.
  • Maternity clothes?  My clothes are fitting just fine this week but I have a feeling after my nausea is gone for good I will be making up for the weight loss.
  • Stretch Marks? No visible signs yet.
  • Best moment this week?  Surprisingly, going to the hospital is my best moment.  It was so nice to get some relief from the nausea for the first time in weeks.
  • Miss anything? Energy...can I have it back please?! I can't wait to feel normal again.
  • Food cravings?  Chicken noodle soup has been a major craving this week.  I feel like it helps to settle my stomach.  I don't like the chicken necessarily but I crave the salty, tasty, broth.
  • Babe Movement? No movement but it loves to remind me its in there by the constant nausea.  Fun Fact: This week the babe forms vocal chords and teeth.
  • Food aversions?  None and all at the same time (it's complicated), but I have a very limited diet this week so pretty much sticking to lots of liquids to stay hydrated.
  • Gender?  I definitely think its going to be a girl but will be happy either way as long as its healthy.
  • Labor signs?  I can barely get passed the first trimester sickies much less think about labor pains.  I'm Officially Scared!
  • Symptoms?  Constant horrible nausea, vomiting, morning sickness...whatever you want to call it and fatigue.  I am always feeling so sick that I haven't had a chance to notice other symptoms.  Oh but I did notice I don't have to shave my legs as often.  Hair grows much slower than normal.  Weird!
  • Sleep?  I am supposed to only sleep on my side which is very difficult for me.  I am normally a stomach sleeper, so I wake up throughout the night and find myself laying on my back and have to turn to my side because the ladies are getting pretty big and sore.  It hurts to roll over on my stomach when I sleep and it's awkward to sleep on my side but I'm trying.
  • Belly button in or out? In.
  • Wedding rings on or off? Wedding band on, engagement ring off.
  • Happy or moody? Neither, too sick to be either happy or moody.
  • Looking forward to?  This weeks doc appointment.  I love seeing the babe moving all around.  It helps get me through the symptoms.

A Bump In The Road

My 48 hours of feeling good were very short lived.  Unfortunately, I ended up in the hospital yesterday after a bout of non stop nausea and vomiting.  I could no longer hold a sip of water down or a bite of a cracker.  After spending days curled up on the bathroom floor I felt something needed to be done.  I called the hubby and asked him to take me to the hospital.  He called my doctor to update her with my situation and she said that my nausea and vomiting is perfectly normal but that I was probably dehydrated and needed an IV.  I still don't understand how this could be normal but she was exactly right.  They ran multiple test and all came out great.  We even got a new photo of the babe at 13.2 weeks and all is perfect!  However, I was dehydrated so they pumped me full of fluids and I immediately felt better.  They also injected my IV with an anti-nausea medicine and something to help coat my stomach.  I woke up this morning feeling like a million bucks.  However, I was also given a very bland restricted diet for the next couple days.  I am limited to baby food, chicken noodle soup, and a select variety of fruits and vegetables but the skin must be peeled and they must be cooked. No greasy or fried foods and no sauces, spices, or sugar.  I am also drinking lots of HydroPlus, which is an adult Pedialyte.  I am 13 weeks 3 days today, so I was told that the nausea should slowly be easing off in the next week or so.  Let's hope thats true because I don't want to end up back in the hospital, although they were extremely friendly and nurturing, they even brought me homemade chicken noodle soup and hot tea to see if I could hold it down after my IV.  I was also given Klopra and told to take it for the next ten days.  I am not big on taking pills.  I never even take a Tylenol for a headache.  I'm more of a natural remedy kinda gal so when I was given the Klopra I immediately did research online to find out the use, side effects, etc.  I found out it is the drug given to cancer patients after chemotherapy to help ease the nausea.  I also read in bold letters that it is not safe for expectant mothers because they do not know the outcome of the unborn child if taken and it has a strong side effect of Parkinson like symptoms.  This was very alarming, however this is a common drug given to pregnant women everywhere to ease the nausea which I don't quite understand.  I refuse to take it because I would rather have a healthy baby and endure the pain.  Look at that, I am already acting like a mom.

I went shopping today for the first time in a long time.  I'm starting to feel much better and can get out and about more often.  I was roaming around in Zara Home and decided to wander toward the baby section which by the way has the cutest nursery items.  I found this adorable and super soft blanket with elephants printed on it.  Everyone knows I love me some elephants!  I decided the babe had to have it plus it is gender neutral.  I have now officially purchased my first item for the babe. Yay!

  • How far along? Twelve Weeks
  • Baby Size? Size of a Plum
  • Total weight gain? I lost 2lbs this week (I think from being so sick) so up a total of 2lbs but feeling very bloated and preggo.
  • Maternity clothes? Not yet, but I have been browsing some cute maternity sites like Hatch, Isabelle Oliver, and ASOS.  Check out my favorite sites under Bump Style.
  • Stretch Marks? No visible signs yet.
  • Best moment this week? My name change is now official on all documents.  I waited a while to update my passport with my married name because I fly so much but finally updated it. Woohoo! Big check off my list.
  • Miss anything? The United States and the Fall Season.  Craving pumpkin and halloween stuff everywhere.  I can't wait to land at the Atlanta airport and head straight to Starbucks for a PSL, half caff of course.
  • Food cravings?  I had a craving for chocolate ice cream so the hubs ran to the store and got me some.  I don't like milk so I am using ice cream as my substitute for calcium.  It's so wrong it's right.
  • Babe Movement? Not yet but this week the babe now has it's reflexes so if I poke it then it will respond and move around.
  • Food aversions?  It hasn't been too terrible this week.  I have to take it day by day but this has eased off quite a bit.  Finally!
  • Gender?  I heard that you have horrible morning sickness when carrying a girl verses a boy so that solidifies that I think it's a girl.  If we have a boy I am going to feel really bad for thinking he was a girl this whole time.  Whoopsie!
  • Labor signs?  I have a while to go before I experience this, thank god.
  • Symptoms?  Lower back pain and some cramping, still having strong headaches which is very rare for me.  I normally never get headaches. The toilet is still my best friend these days whether it's too much water drinkin or my nausea.   I have a little more energy this week so I am trying to use it at the gym.
  • Sleep?  Ready for bed by 2pm.
  • Belly button in or out? In.
  • Wedding rings on or off? Wedding band always on, I love it.
  • Happy or moody? Happy, but noticing that I can get irritated easier than usual and of course emotional.
  • Looking forward to?  Receiving our test results back from our Panorama Testing in one more week.  I am a little nervous but it is better to have more information than not enough.  Plus we find out the sex!

  • How far along? Eleven Weeks
  • Baby Size? Size of a Lime
  • Total weight gain? 4lbs
  • Maternity clothes? None, but my favorite Vince jeans in this pic are fitting pretty tight, not sure how much longer I can pull these off.
  • Stretch Marks? Rubbin on my oil everyday.
  • Best moment this week? Started to pick out some baby furniture online to purchase while we are in the states.  It's so fun shopping for fun nursery items.
  • Miss anything? The lower altitude, morning sickness has hit again now that we are back home.
  • Food cravings? Fruits, mostly oranges, watermelon, and strawberries.
  • Babe Movement? None, but looking forward to feeling this lil monster inside.
  • Food aversions?  This week salmon.  Hubby made a delicious salmon but I couldn't even get near it. Boo!
  • Gender?  The Chinese have solidified my feelings.  I think it's a girl but we should find out soon.
  • Labor signs?  Moving on...
  • Symptoms?  Morning sickness hit me as soon as we arrived back to Bogota.  But not feeling as tired this week.  Strong headaches, so I broke down and took half a Tylenol for the first time since being pregnant.  It relieved the headache immediately and I wish I had resorted to drugs earlier.  A new symptom this week was a stuffy nose which apparently is quite common at this stage in pregnancy.
  • Sleep?  No crazy dreams to report this week, but I have taken up quite a cuddle partner to sleep with.  The infamous body pillow.  Where has this been all my life.  My husband has some jealousy issues with it.
  • Belly button in or out? In.
  • Wedding rings on or off? Wedding band on.
  • Happy or moody? Happy, happy, happy, no moodiness to report but can be emotional from time to time.
  • Looking forward to?  Telling all our family and friends in three weeks.  I know we are waiting quite a while before breaking the news, but the hubby and I live in Bogota, Colombia and will be traveling back to the states in three weeks to see everyone and decided to wait and tell them all in person then.

Even Genders Are "Made In China"

I had yet another dream about my baby.  Once again, it popped right out as a boy (I must have been doing my daily squats).  At least this time the nurses let me keep him.  I have been feeling girl vibes as I have mentioned before so this really sparked my curiosity and I decided I would go ahead and try one of those cheezy, yet supposably reliable Chinese Gender Predictors online.  I found my Chinese Gender Predictor at TheBump.com which has been my saving grace considering I know zero about pregnancy or babies.  It was super easy to use, I just plugged in all the information and Bam! It's a Girl!  At least, it has a 50% chance of being a Girl.

To Test...Or Let It Rest?

I have been reading a lot about Genetic Testing lately.  The CVS (Chorionic Villus Sampling) test is something that is offered to most pregnant women nowadays.  Especially if you are over the age of 35.  It is an evasive genetic test that is performed between weeks ten and twelve.  Ultimately, a trained doctor will get a sample of your placenta tissue (usually through a really long needle through your belly button, eek!).  This sample will be tested for chromosomal abnormalities.  As with almost everything, there are a lot of side effects to having this procedure.  Just to list a few, higher chance of miscarriage, a few days of bed rest, no sex, heavy lifting, or flying.  You might experience cramping, pinching, or bleeding.  To CVS or not is definitely not an easy decision, and you're smart to do some research before deciding.  I dove head first into the internet and also reached out for personal experiences from other moms on community boards widely available. I found that everyone has their own personal opinion on whether or not to CVS and I was just going to have to come to my own conclusion.  That's when I read about Panorama Testing.  I went immediately to the website and did endless days of research.  I found that Panorama Testing was a fairly new procedure and non-evasive (ding, ding, ding!)  Also, it poses no risk to me or the babe.  It has a 99% certainty whether or not baby has genetic disorders and we get to find out the sex of the babe in ten to twelve days after testing.  The test is a simple blood draw from the mom and a simple swab of the mouth from the dad.  Sounds perfect!  I asked my doc about it at my nine week check up.  She said that she didn't personally offer the testing but that she was super excited that I was interested and had done my research.  She contacted the Panorama provider in our area and made an appointment to have the procedure done the following Monday (I would be ten weeks along which is required for the test).  Monday came and it took maybe a total of five minutes and we were on our way with the rest of the day.  I look forward to sharing our results when we receive them.  If you are interested in Panorama Testing please visit their website to learn more at PanoramaTest.com

Please note, you should talk to your doc openly about any genetic risk to your babe and carefully consider all your options.

At Ten Weeks my Bump and I are taking it easy.  Feeling amazing now that the nausea has subsided and really getting to enjoy our time away.  Thinking this has a lot to due with the decreased altitude here in Medellin.  Oh and I thought I would mention, due to the increased hormones, your skin tends to burn much easier.  So layer up ladies!

  • How far along? Nine Weeks
  • Baby Size? Size of a Green Olive
  • Total weight gain? 3lbs
  • Maternity clothes? None, clothes are still fitting ok.
  • Stretch Marks? Still using MamaBee Oil on belly and lady lumps.
  • Best moment this week? Seeing and hearing the babes heartbeat, plus it was moving its little froggy legs and arms all around which was so cool to see since I can't feel a thing yet.  Also, no longer need to take the progesterone since the placenta has now taken over.
  • Miss anything? SUSHI and Champagne
  • Food cravings? Bacon Cheeseburgers and a good icy cold coke.
  • Babe Movement? Not yet but feeling pregnant thanks to bloating.
  • Food aversions?  Yep, usually any meat except a burger.
  • Gender?  Still having some girl vibes running through me but had a dream the other night that I had a boy...hmm.
  • Labor signs? Again, avoiding this subject.  I am not one for pain. Eek!
  • Symptoms?  I don't have morning sickness.  I have all day sickness, fatigue (does staying in bed all day mean your lazy? Oh well), shortness of breath, increased smell, headaches, sore lady lumps, occasional cramping and lower back aches, acne, and frequent tinkling.
  • Sleep?  Having pretty vivid dreams.  Dreamt I delivered a baby boy and the nurses stole him from me and wouldn't give him back.  Also, still waking up in the middle of the night with a super full bladder.  So uncomfortable.
  • Belly button in or out? In.
  • Wedding rings on or off? Wedding band on.
  • Happy or moody? Still really happy, not experiencing any moodiness yet.
  • Looking forward to? Our friends from NYC coming in town this weekend and taking off to Cartagena and Medellin for a week with them.  Not looking forward to, how hard it will be to hide the news from our friends visiting.  Our plan, order alcoholic beverages as normal but hubby will be drinking for two, while I eat for two.
