ABOUT TO MEET MY BABE

I checked into the hospital on March 28, 2015 at 10am.  The doctor broke my water and after that everything happened super fast.  I met my beautiful baby girl at 6:14pm.  My labor was pretty smooth and painless mostly due to an epidural (thank god) so in the end I feel very lucky and have a healthy baby girl to celebrate.

AT THE HOSPITAL

After an  hour long walk at the gym I decided to go on another walk later that night around Bogota with my hubby to pick up some delicious chips and salsa from this Mexican restaurant.  On the walk not only did my contractions start to intensify but I also lost my mucous plug or bloody show.  I called the doc immediately and he told me to go to the hospital to check my progress.  At the hospital, the doc told me "No more walking unless I want to have the baby tonight", so he sent me home to sleep so I would be rested before labor.  I checked into the hospital the next morning!

Heading to the gym even though I am having light contractions.  The doc recommended I walk as much as possible to help labor progress so that's what I'm doing.  Otherwise I will have to be induced which we are trying to prevent.

  • How far along? Forty Weeks and Five Days, yep she is still in here and seems quite comfy.
  • Baby Size? As big as a Jackfruit
  • Total weight gain? 23 lbs total
  • Maternity clothes?  Still
  • Stretch Marks? None
  • Best moment this week?  When I started having contractions.  I really want to experience labor naturally and am doing everything to make her come out on her own.  I am just hoping they get more intense and closer together rather than stop.
  • Miss anything?  Nope
  • Food cravings?  Still dairy but that's about it.
  • Babe Movement?  Lots of stretching, I had a non stress test (standard test when you are past due) yesterday and she was moving all over the place.  Everything was fine.
  • Food aversions?  None, loving all food right now.
  • Gender? Sophie Rose Velez
  • Labor signs? Started having "real" contractions last night.  They aren't very close together but they have been consistently happening for the past 12 hours.  Woohoo!  Doc and I are hoping this is the start of labor otherwise talks of being induced next week are in the works.  I really want her to come on her own but I will have to be induced after 41 weeks according to my doc.  He says it is not healthy for the babe to be in there much longer.
  • Symptoms?  Contractions, back pain, and that's about it.  Walking and bouncing on my exercise ball trying to force this nugget out.
  • Sleep?  Sleeping good.
  • Belly button in or out? Innie
  • Wedding rings on or off? Off
  • Happy or moody?  Anxious
  • Looking forward to?  Going into labor naturally (fingers crossed).

  • How far along? Thirty Nine Weeks, the home stretch.  Doctor thinks she will arrive this week but I am not feeling it.  I think she is quite comfy in there but we took this last minute photo in the nursery just in case it was the last time with my wombmate!   We can't wait to meet her!
  • Baby Size? As big as a Watermelon, and it is feeling that way.
  • Total weight gain? 23 lbs total, lost a pound but the doc says its ok.
  • Maternity clothes?  Of course and apparently you still wear them for quite a few weeks post babe too.
  • Stretch Marks? None
  • Best moment this week?  Getting more furniture, we actually have a living room now!  Just in time for visitors for this little babe.  Yay!  Other than that, I haven't progressed much this week.  Doc says only 1/2  a cm since last week.  I had a feeling she was going to be later rather than early.  I am so ready already, but I just keep reading articles about how babies born after 40 weeks have higher IQ's, better math and reading skills, and they don't have breathing issues such as asthma.  So I keep telling myself that she can cook as long as she wants even if she comes out a little toasty.
  • Miss anything?  Not that I can think of.  Very content.
  • Food cravings?  Milk, yogurt, ice cream.  Dairy products for sure.
  • Babe Movement?  She hasn't slowed.  Lots and lots of movement.
  • Food aversions?  None, loving all food right now.
  • Gender? Sophie Rose Velez
  • Labor signs? Contractions, menstrual cramping, lower backache, and sore lady parts.  I think these are sticking around until real labor kicks in.
  • Symptoms?  All the above.  Overall, I feel very lucky during this pregnancy.  I haven't had any swelling, spider veins, stretch marks, hemorrhoids, etc.  Most women have lots of not so pleasant symptoms arise during pregnancy.  Fortunately, other than extreme morning sickness in the beginning I have pretty much sailed through this past nine months with ease.  I think I was so tortured in the beginning with morning sickness that God said lets just give her a break from here on out.  I hope my labor is just as easy breezy.
  • Sleep?  I have been sleeping really good.
  • Belly button in or out? Innie
  • Wedding rings on or off? Off
  • Happy or moody?  Excited and super anxious to meet our little butterball!  We have been talking about her for years before she ever existed and now she is almost here...finally!
  • Looking forward to?  Just our little one but not looking forward to the recovery.  Hoping that everything goes smoothly.

  • How far along? Thirty Eight Weeks, 12 days to go, so we hope.  The hubs and I really want her to be born on the 21st.  My due date is the 20th and the doctor is thinking sooner around the 18th.  Ultimately, its up to Sophie when she wants to make her debut.
  • Baby Size? As big as a Pumpkin, but I don't think I have gotten any bigger in the last few weeks.  The belly is at max capacity!
  • Total weight gain? 24 lbs total, it's completely normal to not gain any more weight for the balance of the pregnancy so I don't think I will gain more than a total of 24-25 pounds during this pregnancy.   So funny because in the beginning I was so worried and thinking I was going to be one of those women that gained 40 pounds during pregnancy because I love food so much.  I have eaten anything and everything that I wanted but have only gained 25 pounds.  I guess your body will only gain what it truly needs to support the baby whether its a little or a lot.  It's nothing to worry or stress about as long as you have a healthy baby in the end.
  • Maternity clothes?  Wearing lots of workout gear these days and walking everyday to help ease the cramping and hip pains.
  • Stretch Marks? None
  • Best moment this week?  Getting lots of rest.  I have been sleeping really good this week.  Also, getting some more of our furniture for our apartment in and getting our media center finally built.  The apartment is finally starting to come together.  Plus, at the doctor appointment this week, el doctoro seems to think this babe is coming by this Wednesday.  I am not feeling it.  I think she will be fashionably late and arrive after the 20th.
  • Miss anything?  Thinking about having a nice cold beer soon with sushi.
  • Food cravings?  Still drinking milk.  Other than that, no more cravings.
  • Babe Movement?  She hasn't stopped moving around.  Always stretching and rolling from one side to the other.
  • Food aversions?  None, loving all food right now.
  • Gender? Sophie Rose Velez
  • Labor signs? Contractions, menstrual cramping, lower backache, and sore lady parts.  Same as last week.
  • Symptoms?  All the above.  Just taking warm epsom salt baths every night for the cramping and doing my ball exercises and walking every day.
  • Sleep? Sleeping good every night and taking an hour nap during the day usually.  Hoping to save up as much sleep as possible in my reserve.
  • Belly button in or out? Innie
  • Wedding rings on or off? No more jewelry or painted fingernails/toenails.  At my hospital pre-registration, its required that you do not wear any jewelry or have painted nails.  The lady was really nice and said you can't plan a vaginal birth but its best to not do these things a week before your due date.
  • Happy or moody?  Excited, nervous, ready, impatient.  I have been told the last two weeks of pregnancy are worst than the two week wait for the positive pregnancy test.  I am just so ready for her to be here and the unknown is killing me.  Now I know why women have planned C-sections.
  • Looking forward to?  Meeting our beautiful baby!  So anxious to hold her and smell her and kiss her and the list can go on for days.

THE NURSERY

Designing the nursery was definitely the most difficult task for me.  There are so many different, fun ideas and designs that you can choose.  I originally wanted an all white nursery with black accents and bright paintings on the wall.  I still love this idea but I feel it's a little old for a baby.  Considering they are not babies for long, you have to take advantage of it while they are.  At least that's what I have been told. That's when I opted to go for more of a nursery theme.  I love the blush color for a baby girl especially mixed with golds, silvers, blacks, and whites.  Her nursery is pretty big so we wanted to have a fun accent wall to add some pizazz and take away from the big white space.  The hubs and I invested in the Oeuf furniture because we plan on having many more babies in the future.  We loved the modern design and of course its the best quality and will hold up throughout the years of wear and tear.  However, I think the rocking chair is my favorite piece in the whole nursery.  I plan on spending many late nights breastfeeding in that chair.  It has different breastfeeding positions (Yay!) and I was told by all my mom friends to buy leather.  It can be easily wiped clean which apparently is very important because breast milk ends up every where (Not sure how that happens, Scary!)  In the end, I love the tranquil feel of the overall nursery.  It puts me at ease which is exactly what I was trying to achieve.  I think Sophie is going to love her special abode and can't wait to bring her home.
